Whether you provide the Virginia Local Disability Program (VLDP) or a comparable disability plan to your Hybrid Retirement Plan members, it’s essential to notify VRS when an employee has a long-term disability claim or change in disability status. Your notification ensures other VRS benefits continue.

For example, members on long-term disability continue to accrue VRS service credit and remain eligible for group life insurance and the health insurance credit, if the employer participates in these programs.

Virginia Local Disability Program

The program’s third-party administrator will submit information to VRS when an employee has a long-term disability claim or change in disability status. Refer to the Reporting Hybrid Members on Long-Term Disability - VLDP process guide.

Comparable Employer-Paid Disability Programs

If you offer a comparable plan, you will notify VRS about new long-term disability claims or changes to a member’s disability status. Refer to the Reporting Employees on Long-Term Disability - Comparable Plan process guide for the steps to take in myVRS Navigator when reporting employees on long-term disability.

The process guides are available through the Commonwealth of Virginia Learning Center. If you need access credentials, send an email to externalVLC@varetire.org requesting registration. Be sure to include your full name and work email address.

Alight Takes Ownership of ReedGroup

ReedGroup, which serves as VRS’ third-party administrator for the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program (VSDP) and the Virginia Local Disability Program (VLDP) claims, has been acquired by Alight. Over the next few months, references to ReedGroup will change to Alight on websites, in handbooks and in other communications.
