Your Turn to Ask

I have employees retiring this spring and summer. What’s the best way for them to stay connected with VRS when they retire?

The short answer: myVRS. That’s right, members’ myVRS accounts move with them into retirement. If they registered for myVRS while working, members can use their same username and password to access their accounts in retirement.

When logging in to myVRS after applying for retirement, members will see a banner at the top of the page confirming that VRS has received the application. With the first benefit payment, the information in myVRS will switch from active member information to retiree information.

Retirees who do not set up a myVRS account before retiring should go to https://myvrs.varetire.org/register and follow the on-screen instructions. Logging in for the first time requires one of two identity verification methods:

  • Net benefit payment amount: Refer to most recent statement of benefits or the most recent VRS direct deposit amount.
  • myVRS access code: Members who retired within the last 90 days can use a one-time authentication code mailed by VRS.

After completing their initial login, retirees will need only their usernames and passwords for future use.

Retiring employees should update myVRS with a personal email address. They automatically will be subscribed to receive Retiree News by email.

Retirees can also find news and benefit information on varetire.org under the Already Retired? tab.
