VRS is adding enhanced security for all transactions conducted in myVRS starting in late January. The measure will further protect member and retiree account information and will follow industry best practices.

New registrants will set up enhanced security as part of registration. Members and retirees with existing accounts will be presented with the added security option when logging in to myVRS. Those users who opt out of additional security may continue to view their account information; however, authentication will be required to update the user profile and to complete any financial transactions.

VRS recommends that all myVRS users opt into enhanced security to reduce the risk of fraudulent access if a password is compromised.

Online Retirement Pilot Continues

In early December, a small group of retiring members became the first to experience online retirement using their myVRS accounts. The initial group completed the process successfully, and VRS will invite additional members into the pilot starting this month and continuing through the spring. VRS will notify the employers of those members who participate in the pilot.

Upon reviewing results of the soft launch, VRS anticipates opening the online retirement feature to more members by summer, before moving to open access for most members.

Until the retirement process moves fully online, members who are not participating in the pilot will continue to submit paper forms.

See the November 2020 issue of Employer Update for full details about online retirement and additional myVRS self-service features on the horizon.
