Members Can Prevent Identity Theft by Securing Their Accounts Now

VRS and its business partners are committed to protecting the security and privacy of member information.

VRS members can help protect themselves from identity theft involving their VRS benefits by registering for their myVRS accounts and, if applicable, their defined contribution accounts through DCP Account.

By registering their online accounts, completing the identity-verification steps and then establishing a password-protected account, members are helping prevent someone else from laying claim to the account fraudulently.

VRS automatically locks all myVRS accounts if not registered within 90 days of the member’s hire date. To establish an account after it has been locked, call VRS at 888-827-3847. Members who have registered but have not accessed myVRS within 90 days will be required to reset their passwords to log in.

Make Security an Everyday Focus

In your next employee newsletter or on your intranet page, include these security best practices.

  • Register your myVRS and defined contribution accounts to help prevent someone else from attempting to claim the accounts fraudulently. For your security, passwords must be reset every 90 days.
  • Keep your contact information current with VRS to ensure communications only reach you. If you change your address, phone number or email, update your VRS account(s) immediately to reflect the change. Members should use personal email addresses and phone numbers.
  • Check out VRS’ Security Center (varetire.org/securitycenter) for additional online safety tips.
