Account Security Starts With Members

VRS and MissionSquare Retirement, the record keeper for VRS defined contribution plans, take many measures every day to keep member information secure. Members can help by registering for their myVRS accounts and defined contribution accounts, if applicable, through Account Access, completing the identity-verification steps and then establishing a password-protected account.

As an additional layer of security, myVRS now requires members to enable multifactor authentication to access their accounts.

In your next employee newsletter or on your agency’s intranet page, include these security best practices:

  • Register your myVRS and defined contribution accounts to help prevent someone else from attempting to claim the accounts fraudulently. For your security, passwords must be reset every 90 days.
  • Keep your contact information current with VRS to ensure communications only reach you. If you change your address, phone number or email, update your VRS account(s) immediately to reflect the change.
  • Check out VRS’ Security Center (varetire.org/securitycenter) for additional online safety tips.
