Take note of several updates to VRS websites and member handbooks, primarily related to legislative changes around the health insurance credit and the Line of Duty Act (LODA):

  • Beginning July 1, school divisions that provide VRS retirement benefits to non-teacher employees must provide a health insurance credit to all current and future eligible retirees (see the June Employer Update for details).
  • Special agents of the newly established Virginia Cannabis Control Authority are eligible for LODA benefits.

The July 1 updates also include other benefit administration clarifications. The Hybrid Retirement Plan Handbook for Membersalso underwent a redesign. As a best practice, check the date on the back cover of printed or downloaded handbooks to ensure you have the most recent version. All handbooks are available in the Publications section of the VRS website.
